AUGUSTA, Ga.---A driver is in jail facing several charges after an accident in which another driver lost his life today.

It's been a deadly year so far on the roads, and we're only seven weeks into the new year.

Earlier this afternoon 28-year-old Jason Youngblood of Martinez was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck driven by 63-year-old Albert McClellan.

Now McClellan is in jail and facing multiple charges. He was visibly shaken at the scene.

"The motorcycle was down and the driver was down...and it didn't look good," witness David Gambrell told News 12.

"The motorcycle slid up underneath the truck along with the driver of the motorcycle, which had to be pulled out from up under the truck by fire and EMS," Deputy Larry Thigpen of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office told News 12.

Youngblood died at MCG from his injuries.

Officers say it all started when McClellan pulled out of a paint store onto Reynolds Street.

McClellan told News 12 he never saw the motorcycle.

Deputies say Youngblood was speeding before he slammed on his brakes.

"The skid marks that were measured were approximately 59 feet from when he made contact with the pavement until he made contact with the truck," Deputy Thigpen said.

It's why you won't see witness David Gambrell on two wheels.

"A lot of times people don't see them or say they don't see them. There's no protection," he said.

McClellan was taken into custody on the scene.

Gambrell hopes it's a lesson for all drivers.

"Be more aware," he said. "I always try to be aware when I'm driving. You've always got to look out for the other guy...always."

Albert McClellan is charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, failure to yield, and driving without proof of insurance and vehicle registration. All four are misdemeanors.
