EVANS, Ga.---A man was in critical condition at MCG this evening after an accident involving an 18-wheeler.

The accident happened around rush hour at I-20 and Lewiston Road in Columbia County, that's the Grovetown exit.

Deputies on the scene say a Walmart truck was traveling northbound on Lewiston Road and a red Mazda was traveling south on Lewiston Road, when the Mazda swerved into the northbound lane, causing the 18-wheeler to sideswipe it.

The Mazda was then hit by a white Ford Expedition.

The driver of the Mazda, Jacob Thomas, was airlifted to MCG.

The Mazda was totaled in the accident.

The truck driver and the driver of the Ford Expedition were not injured.

Deputies had to direct traffic until the wreck was cleaned up.

The accident is under investigation.
