AUGUSTA, Ga.---Slick roads and cold temps lead to a mid-morning wreck on Bobby Jones Expressway. It left two women in the hospital. At least one of them is fighting for her life. News 12 has family reaction.
A grief stricken husband and brother surveyed the damage Thursday after an accident on Bobby Jones Expressway that left their loved one fighting for her life. The time is especially difficult as Javier Perez says he'd just spoken with his sister in law Priscilla Wednesday night. "I called everybody because I know the roads are dangerous," said Perez.
Slick roads and cold temperatures made for a dangerous combination. Bobby Jones was a virtual parking lot after the crash. Priscilla is believed to have lost control...crossed the median into oncoming traffic. She was then hit by a woman driving a Chevy Malibu. Javier rushed to the scene. "That's right somebody call us...I guess police call us and tell about it...so we come here quickly."
But the two women had already been taken to M.C.G. Hospital. Priscilla's husband was too shaken to go on camera. He left the scene with his wife's purse. She was heading to work. "People trying to get back and forth to lunch or to work and things like that...speed is what messes everybody up when it's like this outside," said Deputy Wesley Powell.
A tragic day for the Perez family and this is just part of their troubles. "We are going to cite the female at fault for driving while unlicensed and failure to maintain lanes." said Deputy Powell.
But Javier says that's the least of their concern. The familyis just praying Priscilla comes home. "I hope we have God today with us," said Javier.
37 year old Connie Dowling of Augusta was the driver of the other vehicle. She is now suffering from a broken leg. Priscilla is listed in critical condition.
