Diesel truck spills 150 gallons on Martintown Road

October 18, 2007

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---Crews were cleaning up a diesel spill in North Augusta all morning, and the Martintown Road and Highway 1 ramp was expected to be closed until about 10 am.

It happened around 4:15 this morning. A tractor trailer diesel truck was going the wrong the way on the southbound ramp. Investigators say the driver backed up when the realized his mistake and hit the median. That ruptured the tank, spilling 150 gallons of gas.

Crews said the spill was contained but would take some time to clean up. Drivers were advised to head out the door a little earlier this morning and plan for an alternate route to work.
