AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Westside High School was on lockdown on Friday after two black males fired pellet guns at students on the football field.
Three students were injured during the incident but did not need any medical attention.
The students were playing football on the practice field during their lunch period when they were shot at around 12:15 p.m.
Witnesses say two black males were shooting. One was wearing a camouflage hoodie and the other was wearing a silver hoodie.
Students chased the two males into the woods behind the practice field and all the way to the Fountain Head apartment complex. The assistant principal and school public safety officer met them there.
Deputies received word that one of the suspects was hiding inside of a building within the apartment complex. A search was completed, but the suspect was not found.
Two faculty vehicles also sustained minor damage to their windshields during the incident.
The school was put on lockdown for the remainder of the day, and a pep rally planned for Friday afternoon was canceled.
Additional school public safety officers were sent to the school to assist with dismissal.
Investigators are looking for the two suspects in the surrounding area.
