COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina expects the largest freshmen class ever when dorms open Saturday.
The State newspaper reported Tuesday that the Columbia campus expects about 4,500 freshmen for the fall semester.
The Columbia campus could also top 30,000 students for the first time when the count is completed once classes begin.
The average SAT score for the new freshmen is expected to be 1,198, up 10 points from the 2010 fall class.
Those entering the Honors College are expected to have an average 1,427 on the SAT, up 11 points from the previous year.
