AUGUSTA, Ga. -- School officials say 75 students and teachers have tested positive for exposure to tuberculosis at Butler High School.

So far, 500 students and teachers have been tested. Of those, 75 of those tests have tested positive, which means they have been exposed, not that they necessarily have TB.

There is only one confirmed case of TB at this time, but there are two others who officials say could have contracted the disease.

Of the 500 that have been tested, 50 people have not come back to get their results read at this time.

The health scare at Butler High School started about a month ago when school officials began testing students and faculty.

Carol Rountree, executive director of student services, says they feel the situation is "manageable" at this time.

"We are very fortunate to have a very aggressive Health Department that acted on the suspicion early," Rountree said.

Rountree continued, "We're getting the students the help that they need and providing information to the community so that you are abreast of what's going on."
