AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The naming and branding committee for the Georgia Health Sciences University and Augusta State University merger announced its top three suggestions for the '"New U" name.

The top three suggestions are as follows:

• Georgia Arts and Sciences University
  
• Georgia Regents University
  
• University of Augusta

These names will be submitted to the Board of Regents for final approval on Aug. 8.

"I am grateful to the Consolidation Working Groups and the Branding Work Team for all of their hard work on this very important decision," said GHSU President Ricardo Azziz in a news release. "The final decision rests with the Board of Regents and the Working Group and Branding Team have done an excellent job of identifying names that are focused on our future, a future where we will be known as one of the nation's great universities."
