ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina State University has released the names of eight officials fired this month.
The school's response Thursday came after Freedom of Information Act requests by media organizations.
Each employee was given a letter Feb. 10 saying they were being terminated for improper conduct. The letters also said the employees failed to follow university rules and procedures.
The school said the terminations came after an investigation by two attorneys, including former State Law Enforcement Division director Reginald Lloyd.
Those terminated include chief of staff Edwin Givens, police chief Michael Bartley, interim finance vice president Joseph Pearman, student affairs vice president Charles Smith, associate student affairs vice president Lowan Pitt, student life director Lillian Anderson, student services director Brantley Evans and intramural sports director Gene Breeland.
