AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The votes have been counted and the results are in for the new logo, seal and color scheme for Augusta's "New U."
Results were compiled through an online survey that was sent to Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University alumni, faculty and students -- 3,183 votes total.
Of those who took the survey, 44 percent voted for the logo that was chosen, 39 percent for the seal and 55 percent for the color palette.
The current students were the only ones who did not agree with the seal that was chosen, while faculty and staff did not agree on the color palette.
The majority of people who took the survey were alumni, making up 36.2 percent, while 29.2 percent were students.
The chosen logo has the abbreviation "GRU," with Georgia Regents University written out below it and and then Augusta underneath that. One of the fonts used in the logo is from Augusta State University's logo.
The seal has the arsenal oak from the current ASU logo and the old MCG building from the GHSU logo. It also has a flame design based on an old Maori symbol meaning "eternal bond."
"We wanted to make it contemporary, but still simple and timeless," said Beverly Andersen, chief strategy officer for Trend Influence, the Atlanta-based company that designed the logos in a news release.
The color palette chosen consists of dark blue and silver gray. The blue is the same one used by Augusta State University.
Andersen says the blue symbolizes "trust, intelligence and authority" and the silver gray represents "security, reliability and maturity."
