AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Richmond County School District has confirmed that three people have been interviewed for the principal job at Terrace Manor Elementary.
All three candidates are current employees of the school district.
The candidate would fill the spot of former Principal Hartley Gibbons, who announced his retirement last month amid controversy. Gibbons was previously put on administrative leave after storming out of a Board of Education meeting, claiming his school was not getting the attention it needed. Gibbons made claims of unsafe conditions at the school, saying mold and asbestos were inside.
The school has since been tested for these hazards, and administrators say the school is safe.
Superintendent Dr. Frank Roberson is reviewing the applicants. District employees say they hope to name a new principal at next week's committee meeting.
Hal Thomason is currently serving as interim principal.
