CEO, EVP of GRU to step down in June

The CEO of Georgia Regents Medical Center and Medical Associates, and Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Georgia Regents University is stepping down effective June 30, GRU confirms.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The CEO of Georgia Regents Medical Center and Medical Associates, and Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Georgia Regents University is stepping down effective June 30, GRU confirms.

David S. Hefner will "pursue opportunities outside of the Augusta area," a release said.

Hefner joined the leadership team in 2011 as Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs for what was then MCG Health System, Inc.

Dr. Peter F. Buckley, Chair of the Georgia Regents Medical Associates Board of Trustees, member of the Georgia Regents Health System Board of Directors, and Dean of the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, will serve as interim CEO of the Georgia Regents Medical Center and the Georgia Regents Medical Associates, and interim Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Georgia Regents University.

A national search will start immediately for a permanent replacement, a release said.
