AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Gov. Nathan Deal has signed off on transferring land in downtown Augusta to Georgia Health Sciences University.
The Board of Regents approved giving the old Golf and Gardens property along Reynolds Street to GHSU earlier this year. The university says it wants the land as part of its consolidation with Augusta State University.
GHSU President Dr. Ricardo Azziz has suggested creating a research building and student dorms while the Ripken Group is still pushing for an athletic complex.
The Board of Regents is also expected to vote on the mission statements for the consolidated universities on Tuesday.
