Aiken Co. mourning loss of retired superintendent

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. -- The Aiken County School District is morning the loss of a former leader.

Retired School Superintendent Joe Brooks died on Friday.

Brooks, 81, was the superintendent of Aiken County Schools for eight years before retiring in 1995. Before working in Aiken, he taught in Cabarrus County, N.C.

Brooks was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June and is survived by three children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Aiken on Saturday, Nov. 17.
