AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- A bomb squad has examined a suspicious device resembling a grenade found at a middle school in Aiken on Wednesday. They've determined it's only a replica.
Aiken Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jake Mahoney says the device was found in the bushes by a student at Kennedy Middle School on Wednesday.
Mahoney says a student brought the suspicious device to school, realized he was going to get in trouble and hid it in the bushes, which is when the other student found it.
Capt. Maryann Burgess says the student accused of bringing the device onto school property has been charged with disrupting a school.
The device was taken to Richmond County to be examined.
