AIKEN CTY., S.C. -- An Aiken County student has been selected as one of two South Carolina student delegates that will participate in the U.S. Senate Youth Program for 2012. The announcement was made today by Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint.

Alexis Brewe of Graniteville, along with Jared Allen Thompson of Dalzell, will represent the Palmetto State at the program’s 50th Anniversary Washington Week from March 3-10.

Alexis is a student at Aiken High School and serves on the student council. She is the daughter of Jamie and John Brewe.

By being selected, Alexis will receive a $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship in addition to the all-expenses-paid trip to the nation's capital. She will visit Capitol Hill, the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department, the Supreme Court and other historic sites in Washington, D.C. They will then meet with senators, cabinet officers, government leaders and other policy-makers.
