AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State University says their Department of Military Science is Army Strong.
A training instructor in the department, Sergeant First Class Heriberto Reyes, has been named the 2012 Cadet Command Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year. The award was presented to Sgt. 1st Class Reyes after a competition against more than 274 schools across the U.S. The competition included land navigation, physical fitness, obstacle course and weapons qualification.
“Sgt. 1st Class Reyes displayed the excellence we instill in our cadets. We are proud of his hard work not only in this competition, but also in the work he does in preparing our cadets,” said Lieutenant Colonel Keith Cantrell, chair of ASU’s military science department.
He is also an inductee into the Honorable Order of Saint George and has received other awards including the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.
This win qualifies him for the Training and Doctrine Command competition this summer at Fort Eustis, Va.
