August 30, 2007

GRANITEVILLE, S.C.---Students at Midland Valley High School are remembering a big contributor at their school today. Longtime teacher Robert "Bob" Sawyer died Tuesday. He was 55.

Sawyer spent 27 years at the school before retiring last spring, then returned to the classroom this year.

Each day, Sawyer would stand in front of the school as the students arrived.

I had Mr. Sawyer as my P.E. teacher at Jefferson Junior High back in the 70's and he taught my children recently. He was a good teacher and a better man. He will be missed, but we thank him and his famly for his service to the community. John 5:28, 29.

Our school is finally realizing that this isn't just a sick joke that someone pulled. Mr. Sawyer was an awesome teacher. Every day, he'd stand outside the classroom door and smile and say hello to everyone who passed by. I had him during the 2004-2005 school year for biology and again this year for anatomy. He was a loving man and he talked about his family alot. He was definitely one of the people who left a mark on so many people's souls, including my mom, dad, cousins, and myself, and he will never be forgotten. Mr. Sawyer, we hold you in our hearts forever.
