Music teacher dies in hospital after accident

August 27, 2007

LINCOLNTON, Ga.---Services are scheduled for a Warren County music teacher.

The McDuffie County coroner says Marilyn "Betty" Campbell died at MCG yesterday.

Campbell's car collided with a tractor-trailer on Highway 43 in McDuffie County around 6:30 Thursday morning (August 23). She was on her way to work at ME Freeman Elementary School in Warrenton.

"It's deeply saddened all of us here in Warren County," said school superintendent Carol Jean Carey. "The community as a whole and of course everybody in the schools. She hadn't been with us very long but we'd already gotten to know her and the students had gotten to know her."

A memorial service will be held at 6 o'clock tomorrow night at First Assembly of God in Lincolnton. Campbell's former music students will serve as honorary pall bearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 o'clock tonight, also at First Assembly of God.

Betty was also a music teacher in Lincoln County for many years and was an integral part in many children's lives. She had a wonderful choral ensemble at the school. My daughter took lessons from her in piano and voice. She will be missed.
