GROVETOWN, Ga. - A 5 year-old boy who attends Grovetown Elementary was left on the school bus yesterday afternoon.
According to Columbia County Superintendent Charles Nagle, the kindergartner did not get off at his bus stop because he didn't see anyone at his house. He then laid down in the seat of the bus.
When the bus was finally parked. The little boy decided to walk home. That's when Peri Leigh Road resident Lisa Wallace found him crying,
"Something could've happened to that little boy. It scared me to death," said Wallace.
Wallace took the boy to her home and called the Sheriff's department. An officer picked up the child and returned him to his worried family.
Nagle says the bus driver did check the bus for students before leaving. He says the Columbia County School Board and the Sheriff's department are conducting a thorough investigation.
The bus driver is on administrative leave until the investigation is finished.
