A state audit of McDuffie County's school system finds $5000 that was paid to senior management wasn't properly reported.
The audit shows Superintendent Dr. Mark Petersen was reimbursed more than $2000 for undocumented charges to his credit card.
It also found taxpayer money paid for a $229 airline ticket and $225 registration fee for his wife, though Dr. Petersen reimbursed the school system when auditors asked him about it.
The audit also questions hundreds of dollars in reimbursements on his corporate credit card for banquets, celebrations and dinners that do not appear to be education related.
In response to the audit, the superintendent's credit card and those of his cabinet were cancelled.
Among other findings, auditors report the Title 1 program in McDuffie County spent $49,628 they can't account for.
In all, the county gets $1.5 million from the federal government for Title 1 programs.
