It's the last place two men ever expected to be robbed: on school grounds.

But it happened Monday night at Copeland Elementary.

One of the victims spoke with News 12 about the attack. He asked to remain anonymous.

"I was shocked," he said.

The 19-year-old victim and his friend were cutting through a field at Copeland
Elementary, heading back home, when an armed gunman pulled a semi-automatic and attacked them from behind.

"My heart rushed, breathing hard," he recalled. "I was scared...real scared."

According to the incident report, the attacker went after his friend first and pistol-whipped him in the head.

"His head was swollen. He got a big knot on his head and busted his nose."

After stealing several items, including his friend's bank card, the attacker turned the semi-automatic back on him.

"I had my head down and when I peeked up he came to me so I laid my head back down and said don't shoot me! He took it and ran across the field."

Without hesitation he forfeited his wallet, thinking of his most prized possessions he would risk leaving behind.

"I got a little girl and a wife to take care of," he told News 12. "I just went ahead and laid down. I wasn't trying to do nothing he could have it."

"I hope they get him."

Unfortunately, neither of the victims was able to get a good look at their attacker.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
