AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The future of ice hockey in Augusta continues to hang in the balance. The floor at the James Brown Arena is still not working properly, and the city says it's waiting to see how much insurance will cost.

Augusta RiverHawks Coach Mark Richards says he's hoping for a little more hockey at the James Brown Arena.

"It's been difficult for us. It's hard to go out and push ticket sales and corporate sponsors for us," Richards said.

"I think they know we are doing everything we can to expedite our decision. We definitely want to keep them," said Coliseum Authority Chairman Cedric Johnson.

Johnson says his board is waiting to hear how much the insurance company will cover. The money will be used to fix the machine that makes ice.

"It's going to cost money to fix that floor. I don't know the exact figure. It's up to them to decide if they see value in us being here," Richards said.

"The floor is going to run us close to a million dollars. I can tell you we don't have that much money to put into a floor," Johnson said.

The RiverHawks are selling tickets for next year. They just hope the floor will be fixed.

"We do need it soon. We are losing valuable time out in the community trying to sell. We are also trying to recruit players as well," Richards said.

"We know they're quite a few hockey fans here in Augusta. We want to try and keep the team here," Johnson said.
