AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Every weekend this month, Augusta's Convention Center and surrounding areas will be packed.

Conventions are scheduled all month long. We're told the month full of activities will have an $8 million dollar impact on Augusta's economy.

Reynolds street will be a lot busier all month long. "The last time we held this conference was in 2008. Each year they select different schools to attend and it just happened to be our year to host it," said Chapter President for Kappa Alpha Psi Ryan Davis.

More than 350 of his fraternity brothers are hosting two day leadership training conference at the Augusta Convention Center. "I hope to meet new faces and network," said Wright.

The system behind bringing that group and 10 conferences to Augusta's Convention Center is headed by Barry White. "Moving into fall is a busy time for us, it's a busy busy season. We're ready to kick it off right," said Augusta Convention and Visitors President Barry White.

His group estimates this month more than 80,000 people will attend conferences here. Those people will need hotels, food and could shop adding an estimated $8 million dollars to the local economy.

"It was worth every bit of blood sweat and tears that we put into it, " said Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver.

"I think in the end the results will pan out and everybody will say let's just move forward," said Marriott President Darryl Leech.

"For the larger events the city is having to hire deputies to direct traffic and help," said Leech.

Help that's necessary to accommodate all the people and money coming to the city.
