AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Georgia's 2013 General Assembly starts in less than a week. State and locally elected officials got together Tuesday and spoke about their goals heading back to Atlanta.

Having state and local officials sit at a table and talk hasn't happened in years.

"This is something we need to have on a regular basis. I think the last time we had something like this was two years ago," said Commissioner Bill Lockett.

"I don't know why we haven't. I'm a relatively newcomer to the State Senate. It's a good thing, and I hope that it will continue," said State Sen. Jesse Stone.

District Attorney Ashley Wright talked about the Forfeiture Bill and how it will hurt the Sheriff's Office.

"It's going to limit the things we can forfeit. It's going to split the proceeds and take them away from the Sheriff's Offices and ceasing agencies," Wright said.

The district attorney also asked for a raise for her employees.

Commissioners also learned they have more than $5 million coming from the TSPLOSt to address the city's transit problem. There's already $400,000 in the bank.

"I would hope that we are able to prioritize those millions of dollars. I would hope that number one would be a public transit system," Lockett said.

"We are going to be able to do some of the things we want. I'm pleased to hear that it can become a reality," said Commissioner Alvin Mason.

Georgia's legislative session will last 40 days. We'll keep you updated with any new laws or budget cuts that might be heading our way.
