Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York) speaks to a thousand-strong crowd in Aiken, South Carolina

Hillary Rodham Clinton's attempt to keep a low profile and maintain a strong post-Cabinet image has hit a few bumps.

That's partly due to a sexting scandal in the New York City mayor's race and a federal investigation drawing headlines in the Virginia governor's race.

Republicans have made a separate stink over television programs being developed by CNN and NBC about the former first lady and secretary of state. The GOP contends the media are unfairly promoting Clinton's image ahead of a potential White House campaign.

The episodes have created some unwanted attention for Clinton during a relatively quiet time before she decides whether to begin a second presidential campaign.
