AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Bad circulation of city water is causing issues for one South Augusta Neighborhood.

Neighbors in the area say the drinking water comes out rusty and with an odor.

City officials tell us they have been working on a plan and it could be awhile before the problem is fixed.

"When it's not running our drinking water turns rusty and has an odor. I haven't been drinking the water in years," said neighbor Larry Webber.

Webber and his family have lived on Roberson drive for more than 20 years. He says for years the water has been undrinkable.

"I'm scared for my health if the water is rusty. It tells you something is wrong right there. If you drink the water it's bound to make you sick," Webber said.

"Yes, [the water's drinkable.] Actually that's why we are flowing the hydrant to keep the chlorine residual up and make sure, it's good quality water," said Utilities Director Tom Weidmeier.

The city has not only one hydrant but two on separate streets with a continuous flow to keep their water clean. We're told this affects around 50 homes and that a circulation pump on Old Louisville Road and Bobby Jones would fix the problem.

Webber said he pays his water bill on time and that it should be clean and clear.

"Just like when I go back there to run water for my dog it comes out rusty. My dog will not even drink it. I pour it out and let it run until it clears up," Webber said.

We're told about $10,000 would clear this up and the Webber's drinking water. Until that fix comes, the flow continues.
