UPDATE: Board committee approves Williams as public safety chief

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Board committee members have voted to approve Waynesboro Police Chief Alfonzo Williams as the new chief of public safety for Richmond County Schools.

All except one board member, Patsy Scott from District 5, voted to approve Williams for the position on Tuesday.

The Board of Education still has to give final approval during its meeting next Thursday night.

The school district interviewed nine people total.
