AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Three Richmond County deputies were honored on Tuesday for their use of Tasers in a recent incident.

Deputies Scott Usry, Nathan Regedanz and Anthony McKinney received plaques and awards from Sheriff Richard Roundtree.

On April 4, the three deputies were called to an Augusta apartment complex because a woman armed with a gun was threatening to commit suicide. Roundtree says the three deputies were able to stop her from harming herself after Deputy Usry was able to use his Taser, causing her to drop the gun.

Roundtree says he is thankful that his deputies have the Tasers and are training to use them.

"We saved a life and that female in that situation has another chance and that's because of our officers and because of their training and that's what it's all about," Roundtree said.

Right now, only one-third of deputies carry Tasers. Roundtree says he hopes to equip every deputy with a Taser by the end of the year.

Richard Lord, owner of Paradise Kennels, was also honored for his donations and support of the K-9 Division.
