AUGUSTA, Ga (WRDW) -- A U.S. Congressman from Georgia is still working to clean up comments he made about how students on free lunch need to earn it by sweeping the Cafeteria floors.

U.S. Representative Jack Kingston says his comments were taken out of context. He was in Evans today to talk to voters as he prepares to run for a U.S. Senate Seat.

"It was put out in a slanted way forgetting the context by the Democrat party," said Rep. Kingston.

Congressman Jack Kingston is referring to these comments he made about students and free lunch. He believes the Democrats are trying to set him up.

"The idea about kids doing work inside and outside the home is to prepare them for the workplace," said Kingston.

"I think it is very important that I am the candidate who wants to restore the American dream for the next generation," said Kingston.

Rep. Kingston plans to put those comments behind him as he gears up for a run for the United States Senate. He says he's most proud of the thousands of jobs, he's worked to bring because of the Savannah Port Project.

The big question is come May 20th will voters be able to forget.

Representative Kingston tells us he's gotten a lot of financial support for his run for the U.S. Senate. He says he's raised about $4 Million.

The job only pays around $200,000 a year.
