AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The conditions of the fairgrounds grounded the POWERFEST concert. Augusta's ice storm is being blamed.
The concert was supposed to be held at the Augusta Fairgrounds. The problem is the grounds that were once filled with storm debris are now muddy with puddles of water everywhere. Organizers are having a tough time.
"We have no doubt that we'll finished by then," said Leidos Manager Ralph Natale.
"It's the agreement and we're not concerned at all," said Fairgrounds Manager Joe Taylor.
News12 was told those statements exactly one month ago from officials when we asked if the Augusta Fairgrounds would be cleared of debris in time for Clear Channel's Power Fest. Now the city is singing a different tune.
"Power fest has been postponed due to the weather and that area was used as a dumping ground," said Minnesota Fattz.
Radio Show Host Minnesota Fattz got some disappointing news just days before the event. Now, he is tasked with telling fans they'll have to wait a little longer to see some of their favorite R&B artists.
"VH1 Stevie Jay, Benzino, Cash out. we had a great lineup of people. The list goes on and on," Fattz said.
He says it takes about a year to plan the annual event at the Augusta Fairgrounds, but it's taking him all day to cancel.
Crews have been picking up tree limbs and other debris around the city for months now. Augusta's Fairgrounds were one of the places the city used to house that debris.
The piles are mostly gone but what remains is a lot of rain and mud.
