AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Pay raises for the Richmond County sheriff and solicitor general were denied during an Augusta Commission committee meeting on Monday.
Sheriff Richard Roundtree and Solicitor General Kelly McIntyre had both previously requested reviews of their salaries.
Roundtree currently makes just under $110,000, while McIntyre makes $97,000.
Both requests were denied with a 5 to 4 vote.
"Their certain qualifications that they bring to the table and certifications that the previous folks who sat in those offices did not bring. So they're not raises, they're called compensation for certifications and experience," Augusta Commissioner Alvin Mason said.
Mason says he hopes both Roundtree and McIntyre will continue to do good work for the city and that commissioners will approve those pay raises in the future.
