AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The race for the 12th Congressional seat continues to heat up.

On Friday, Rick Allen called on Lee Anderson to defend what he calls lies. Allen says his message is simple, saying, "It's time to put up or shut up," and agree to debates where Anderson can stand before voters and answer to his campaign attack ads.

So far, Anderson's campaign has not scheduled a time to meet Allen on stage before the Republican runoff on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

While the Republican runoff heats up, incumbent Democratic Congressman John Barrow seems cool, calm and collected as the November election inches closer.

News 12 sat down with him to talk about the issues. He talked about his campaign and how he distinguishes himself from his opponents. Barrow says this country needs more moderates in the Capitol to work with both sides of the aisle.

Barrow also challenges both runoff opponents to take a stand on the federal budget. He claims they have little plans to fix things but that his record shows he's ready to make the cuts necessary.

Looming military cuts and how they could potentially affect Fort Gordon was also a hot topic. Barrow says he opposes cuts and believes Fort Gordon is in a good position with more signal and intelligence expertise.

Barrow also spoke about the Affordable Healthcare Act and how he believes there are good and bad things about the bill and some of them should stay, while others should be repealed.

Barrow says his decision not to attend the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte next month was because he would rather spend time with voters in the 12th District.
