AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Richmond County's newly-elected sheriff has appointed Patrick Clayton for the chief deputy position.
Clayton has been the chief of the Richmond County School System Department of School Safety and Security since April 2010.
Before taking that position, Clayton retired from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration after serving for 22 years.
In a press release, Roundtree makes this statement about his decision:
"Effective Jan. 1, 2013, School Public Safety Chief Patrick Clayton will be appointed as Chief Deputy of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. I am confident that Chief Clayton has the experience, education and training to help implement my vision as we move the Sheriff’s Office forward. I have known Chief Clayton both as a colleague and co-worker over the last 15 years. I have come to appreciate his organizational and leadership skills. Chief Clayton shares my vision for the Sheriff’s Office and will be a very valuable member of our executive leadership team."
