AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Mayor Deke Copenhaver says Augusta's economy is growing.

"He's always so positive. We're living in such a great city and we need to know it," said Exchange Club Member Clyde Lester.

Copenhaver gave his State of the City address at the Augusta Exchange Club meeting on Thursday.

"This is a facility that's bringing American jobs back," Copenhaver said.

He's referring to Starbucks. The plant will bring more than 140 jobs to Augusta once construction is complete. Copenhaver also mentioned the expansion of Plant Vogtle and the consolidation of ASU and GHSU, among other things.

"They all feed off each other. The success we've had economically all feeds into the next," said Commissioner Donnie Smith.

"Detroit is going to have to declare bankruptcy. Our economy is growing and our population is growing, we're completing a new project," Copenhaver said.

"We need to play those up. He does a great job of that. I think we tend to focus on the minute and not look at the big picture," Lester said.

A year the city wants to keep building on the good while working on the bad.

"He's doing a good job of addressing those issues. I think everything is going to even out as the year goes on," Lester said.
