AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The official results are in for the primary runoff, and they have Lee Anderson in the lead.
The Georgia Secretary of State's Office has certified the votes from the GOP 12th Congressional District runoff on Aug. 21, and election officials report Anderson claimed 50.29 percent of the vote while Allen received 49.71 percent.
It changed the original unofficial number by a few votes, and actually widened the margin between the two a little. Still, with a 159-vote difference between the two, it's enough for Allen to ask for a recount.
He has already requested one.
If Anderson stays on top after the recount results are in, he'll face Democrat incumbent John Barrow in November.
Election officials waited to certify the runoff because a federal judge ordered Georgia to give military and overseas voters an extra 10 days to return absentee ballots.
