AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Gold Cross EMS notified the East Regional EMS that it is withdrawing its request to change who is the primary EMS provider in Richmond County.
Currently, Gold Cross EMS and the Augusta Fire Department share the title as co-primary providers for ambulance service in the county.
The CEO of Gold Cross EMS released this statement to News 12: "Our paramedics and EMTs provide the community with an exceptional level of emergency care and whether or not we are under contract with the City of Augusta, Gold Cross is committed to continuing our commitment to the community."
Last week, the East Regional EMS Council put off a vote on the ambulance dispute.
Originally, Gold Cross wants to take over as primary provider in Richmond County after new Augusta Fire Chief Chris James said he wasn't happy with the current contract.
That vote would more than likely have not taken place until February. Now, the two organizations will continue to be co-primary providers of emergency services.
