AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Masters guests have left and the storm cleanup crews are on their way back to town.

The companies will be checking streets to make sure they weren't missed and are focusing on the staging grounds where it has all piled up.

They say the county is about 99 percent clear of debris The city is also expecting a big check from the federal government.

Two weeks ago, the storm debris at the fairgrounds looked like a mountain range but a few weeks later the mountains are reduced to hills.

"It's about 99.9 percent done. We are essentially complete right now," Interim Deputy Administrator Steve Cassell said.

It's been almost two months since a devastating ice storm hit the area. It's taken clean up crews almost just as long to get things back to normal.

"I just think you can always do a better job, but you're talking about about a situation where we've never seen the likes of this before. It's been an incredible undertaking," said Commissioner Alvin Mason.

"The contractors are coming back to town.We are going to look at areas that may have been missed during the final pass. He's going to bring some resources back to address those," Cassell said.

Areas left to be cleaned include the Fairgrounds, Eisenhower Park, the landfill and Carrie Mays park.

"We've gotten some complaints about what areas we may have missed. We are going to check those out and verify those," Cassell said.

Cassell said the city is also doing the paperwork to be reimbursed by Fema and Gema to help pay for it all. Cassell said that could take even longer than the clean up itself.
