AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- With less than a month until the special election for District 127, the candidates campaigns are in full swing.

Three names are on the list to fill the late Quincy Murphy's seat in the Georgia House of Representatives. Tuesday night, all three spoke at the Committee for Good Government meeting.

It was a full house at the Julian Smith Casino as three candidates made their case for why they should be the next state representative. Each candidate got 5 minutes to speak with an endorsement from Augusta Richmond County's Good Government Committee up for grabs.

"It would be an honor," said Dianne Murphy.

"This would be my first endorsement by a group and coming from the citizens for better government that's what I'm all about," said Brian Prince.

First to go was Diane Evans, a pastor and former educator. She said, "I'm passionate about the people in the district, especially Jefferson and South Augusta, and I'm really passionate about getting jobs back in this area."

Next up was an emotional speech by Quincy Murphy's widow Dianne, who wants to finish what her husband started. She said, "We've been in this campaign arena for 11 years and he wasn't in this by himself. I was in this with him all the way. From the walking of the streets to the knocking on the doors."

The last to go was Brian Prince, a retired Army officer campaigning for political office for the first time. "Number one to enhance the integration of Fort Gordon and their veterans here. Also to bring more jobs. That means giving businesses better opportunities to move to Augusta." he said. Prince won the endorsement.

With big shoes to fill following Murphy's death from cancer in August each candidate knows they have a lot of work to do between now and the special election on November 5th.
