That's what George Batten had to say about a new home for the Augusta GreenJackets in his backyard.

People living in Hammond's Ferry and surrounding neighborhoods came to the city council meeting expecting the stadium project to be the topic.

But Mayor Jones said the meeting was not about, "Baseball and those short of things."

The council did approve an agreement with the original developer of Hammond's Ferry to build 8,000 square feet in retail space and 15,000 square feet that would include, single family homes, a bed and breakfast, restaurants and possibly a Family-Y with a pool.

Jones said anything beyond that for right now is just, "Rumors."

And while Batten seems to be OK with what was approved tonight, his concern is what a baseball stadium might bring.

"Noise, lights. I just don't think you can manage all that. I was driving up here and I just live around in Hammond's Ferry, and I said if there was a baseball game going on, I would not be able to get here," he said.

Will Caskey, who didn't make it to the meeting but also lives in the neighborhood, disagrees.

"It would just be such a huge win for North Augusta and unfortunately downtown Augusta's loss," he said.

Caskey says he doesn't believe a stadium would bring crime.

"I think that's fear-mongering from people that just don't want it in their backyard," he said.

But for Batten, it's all about the location.

"Doesn't seem like the best use, in my mind, for riverfront property."
