AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Candidates don't have a whole lot of time until the polls open.

Governor Nathan Deal signed a bill making May 20 decision day.

Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver tells us this could be challenging for candidates and confusing for voters.

"There's going to be so many candidates out there that it will be difficult for one candidate to get their message through, in my opinion," said Mayor Deke Copenhaver.

Mayor Copenhaver is talking about the may ballot that is yet to be printed. On May 20th Augustans will be voting for congressmen and all the state constitutional officers like Governor. You'll be voting for judges, five commissioners and who will be the next mayor of Augusta.

"Here in Augusta, we've never voted in May," said Mayor Copenhaver.

Former City Administrator Fred Russell continues to fuel speculation of a possible run for mayor with this full page ad in the urban pro weekly.

"It's public relations and he's doing it to get into the public eye. It means he wants to run for public office," said Voter Harry Mercer.

Voters will have to register earlier, know the candidates and the Splost projects. "This is very important. We always need good representation and intelligent folks to represent our county," said Voter Laura Coble.

The Richmond County Board of Elections voted to close six precincts last year. Peabody, St. Johns Towers, Cokes-Berry Methodist church, Morgan Middle school and Highland Fire station will not open this year. You can head to the Georgia Secretary of State's website to find out your voting location but you better hurry.
