AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A local man is telling the Augusta commission to "pay up" after drainage problems lead to massive flooding in the Rocky Creek area.

"It stings. It hurts," said B.B. Langham, a father and husband now fighting back tears. "I have children who are accustomed to having a home that are now down to a bedroom and that's it."

News 12 was there as Augusta commissioners got a first hand look at his flood-ravaged home. Langham says it is all the result of drainage problems at the neighboring Rocky Creek.

"I had to do the hardest thing on August 11th that I think any father would have to do," Langham said. "I had to explain to a 4-year-old why her toys were washing down the road."

He is now taking his story to the Augusta Commission.

"This is 22 years of negligence," Langham said. "It's time that the negligence ends."

Langham has marked each time flood waters have soaked his home. He says enough is enough, and some commissioners agree.

They called for an emergency legal meeting.

"I want a definition of what emergent meeting is," cried Commissioner Jerry Brigham. "I don't think this rises to the occasion of an emergency."

"I don't know, it could be a possibility of moving him into temporary housing," said Corey Johnson.

"We do need some temporary housing because the city Augusta is the one that made us homeless," Langham said.

Brigham worries the city may be setting a pricey precedent.

"We don't need to be making motions and setting policy that is going to get us in trouble at some point in time in the future," Brigham said.

Langham says his request is simple.

"Pay up," Langham said. "Pay up and clean up your mess."

Langham will have to wait a little longer to learn about temporary housing. The city has scheduled a meeting later in the week with risk management.
