AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A funeral escort fee that's raising eyebrows is nothing new, according to Commissioner Marion Williams.

Williams says he brought this item to the commission because someone wanted to start an escort service for funerals back in the early 2000s. He had problems with it because Sheriff Ronnie Strength was charging the fee, putting it into a bank account and had no oversight.

At the time, he says his colleagues knew about it and said that was common practice.

Williams says the commission needs to be more concerned about other things like drug money being seized, rather than an escort fee.
