Augusta Commission to tackle fire department raises, more on Monday

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Augusta's fire chief wants city leaders to raise the pay of entry level firefighters to $30,000.

Chief Chris James says after their trained, they leave for higher paying jobs around the state. James is reportedly also looking to raise the salary of other department heads as well.

The Savannah Riverkeepers want to partner with the city in efforts to clean up parts of the river. They're seeking federal grant money while also needing city approval.

Also former Commission Candidate Cleveland Garrison will speak to the commission about his past due church tax bill.

News 12 broke the story about Rev. Garrison owing the county taxes back in March. Rev. Garrison denied owing the county the total amount records showed.

City officials will tackle these issues and so much more on Monday.
