Augusta, Ga (WRDW)---- The vote passed with a 6 to 3 margin. Some expected the approval to be quick and easy, but a delayed vote and disagreements between council members promoted an executive session. After returning--- the debate continued. In the end Aiken county leaders approved the funding plan for the project. North Augusta Mayor, Lark Jones is glad to see this phase is finally over.
"We've got a long way to go. We've said from the beginning this is an A to Z process and we are just getting into G and H and I and all that sort of stuff." he told News12.
Now it's up to the city of North Augusta-- they will have to adopt the tif or tax increment financing just like the school board and county did because all three of them are apart of the tif that will bring a baseball stadium... A hotel and other shops to the North Augusta Riverfront.
Mayor Jones says he's feels pretty good about the way things are going and says they will soon announce the next set of meetings for the people of North Augusta . He also adds if it all goes smoothly--- the city could be cutting a ribbon in about a year.
