AUGUSTA, Ga.---Who knew an email could spark such controversy? Dave Barbee certainly didn't think so.

"Of course it's racist," said Barbara Gordon, community activist and editor in chief of the Metro Courier, referring to Dave Barbee's private email made public. What else can you call it? It is what it is."

Barbee sat down with News 12 to discuss Tuesday's news conference that some are calling an attempt to dodge the truth.

"Really and truly, Mr. Barbee's statement kind of was off base in that it didn't address the issue of the email about bringing 200 whites in and pushing 500 blacks out," Gordon said.

"I'm sorry," Barbee said. "I apologize. It was not intended in any way, shape or form, and I understand their hurt." Barbee says he's just hoping to move on from what he calls a politically incorrect statement.

"People use politically incorrect as an excuse all the time," Gordon said. "What he said was not only politically incorrect, it was morally incorrect, it was socially incorrect, it was economically incorrect."

"She's right. It was incorrect," Barbee said. "I said it was a poorly written email. What else do I have to say?"

It's an email that has the Mayor and other city leaders calling for his resignation. "I'm not gonna resign until the story is out, the whole story," Barbee said. "The truth, again, ladies and gentlemen, I wrote an improper email. When I say improper, improperly worded. And for that I'm truly sorry."

Barbee added, "The Good Lord don't put you in positions and in places that you're not able to handle. He's not gone give me more than I can take."

The emails that started this controversy are below. First are the emails to which Barbee says he was responding. Second is Barbee's email. And third is Braye Boardman's response to Barbee's email.

It always bothers me when any race jumps to the aid of their own race when they are wrong. Mr. Barbee is wrong and anyone that can see anything justifiable in his words are also wrong. American must get beyond black and white or we all will all perish. Yes the black community has problems but the white community also has problems facing the fact, that yes, there is racism in America. If you have any doubt look at Jena LA.

To speak of God, and separate people based on their skin color is an outrage, God died for us all the blood he shedded was RED, we all need to check our veins there is no black and white. This is the reason Augusta is not prospering and won't until we all put this race stupity behind us. Money is green from hand to hand it does not change...Your race should and can't dictate how and where you live. Ignorance is taking the Augusta area down, and as for Mr Barbee he is going to stand before GOD.The one and only true JUDGE. what happen to ONE NATION UNDER GOD. We can't live in harmony here in Augusta. Starting with the people in Leadership, others hear you bickering among each other, every issue is always about the blacks and whites..IGNORANCE IS NOT PREJUDICE, BUT TO BE PREJUDICE IS IGNORANCE, look at Barbee on his interview..When God closes the door no man can open it, and when God opens the door no man can close it, so be careful when using the Father's name..because GOD give PEACE

He knew exactly what he was writing when he wrote it. The only reason why he is acting like he feel bad is because he got caught. Anytime someone do something wrong they never mean it. Thats an excuse that is used all over the world to get out of trouble. I can't personally wait for him to resign or someone should force him to quit.

Well, since I have moved here to the Columbia, Augusta area, and found that this area is about WHITE and BLACK, WHITE'S getting what they want and need, and BLACK'S getting push to the side. Before any growth can be gain by the city of Augusta, everyone must get past their bias, and quit putting the color of ones skin in the forefront of every gain that the city takes. Every day when I watch the evening news, all I see is fighting in the city counsel, when will there be peace. Remember if you want the city to grow, you must put aside your feeling and go toward the good of the city. Perhaps the people of Augusta show fired all of the city counsel members and hold a special election, and get new people in the office, and perhaps change will come.

Mr.Barbee's letter was well written. It was clear and to the point. There was not room to guess as to what he meant by what he said. His desires was expressed.Get rid of the slum(GM)so that(MCG)can acquire that area.Move the blacks out of the center of town(west augusta, columbia county) Change the political vote of the blacks, move more affluent whites into the inner city.Rebuild the inner city without certain elements of people.Build homes that certain people most likely want be able to purchase, there by locking them out.God does not support or protect bad motives.God may be responsible for one getting a position in life, but our character is what has to keep us there.IT has been said that even a fish would not get in troule if he kept his mouth shut.Loose lips sinks ships or causes one to lose their position in life.Mr.Barbee should be forgivens and fired.

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. What was said by this man is what in his heart .He stated it as clearly as he intented.I stated once before, when this man was trying to empty the Gilbert Manor near our neighborhood, that it was political,That hog-wash about blended community was just a slick cover-up for a political purpose.Sweep all the "SLUM" dwellers our of the center of the city so that it can be restructured for mostly whites.Mr. Barbee ment what he said.He just did not think that it would get in the wrong hands. He felt comfortable making this statement because he has make it before and this is what he believes and this is what he feels and there are more like him hidding in the commission and other parts of our government.I have been saying for years, that a plan was brewing to take over the inner city and push the poor blacks and white on the out-skirts of the city so that a so called elite city can be built.Make it unatainable by certain people.Decietful plan.

Mr Barbee has apologies for his poorly written e-mail,We have more problems to worry about than worry about somebody's bad judgement in sending a e-mail. Let just move on to other issues that needs more attention. Let him go back to work and move on. We all have made statements that was not quite worded right.
