COLUMBIA, S.C.---South Carolina's attorney general wants tougher standards for nuclear waste.
Recent reports raised concerns about a radioactive waste dump near Barnwell. Attorney General Henry McMaster says the site is governed by nuclear regulations, but it should also comply with EPA standards for safe drinking water.
DHEC says no one lives in the path of the radioactive pollution from the landfill and chemicals haven't gotten into drinking water.
The company that owns the landfill has tried reducing leaks by closing trenches to keep rainwater out.
