EVANS, Ga.---The Columbia County Board of Education approved a $166 million budget tonight that includes $154,000 to pay for the foreign language program at Stevens Creek Elementary.
Previously the school received $120,000 from the state to fund the program. Gov. Sonny Perdue recently cut funding for it and 29 other school programs across the state. Earlier today, about a hundred parents and students protested the cuts when Gov. Perdue visited Augusta on other business.
About 900 local children take foreign language at Stevens Creek.
Disclosure: News 12's Laurie Ott was an organizer of today's protest, but she had no part in the preparation of this story.
