COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A North Augusta man says he is running as an independent against Republican U.S. Representative Gresham Barrett.
33-year-old Tommy J. Carson III says change is needed in Washington. He says there should be more average Americans in elected offices and fewer career politicians.
Carson works for Mercedes Benz. This is his first political campaign.
In 2006, Barrett defeated Democrat Lee Ballenger to win his third term representing South Carolina's third Congressional district. The district covers northwestern South Carolina.
