NORTH AUGUSTA, SC --- People came out in the pouring rain to cast their vote for the Republican South Carolina Primary. It's a day to exercise your rights.

"I just hope we get the best man for the job," Sandy Swayze said.

Poll workers at First Baptist Church in North Augusta say its important for people to get out and vote, whether rain or shine.

"It's American way and if we don't vote, we can't complain and its very very important to vote this year especially," Ed Zeigler said.

A large turnout was expected for the primary, but the weather didn't help much.

"I think it's going to be a little low because of the weather but I would hope to see a lot of people come out. It's our right and our privileges as Americans to be able to do this," Stetson Corbitt said.

"They had told us that we were going to have a very large turnout, but right now it's not as bad as like we thought it was going to be because of the weather," Zeigler said.

And poll workers agree, the weather plays a huge role in voter turnout.

"It's raining and it's cold. But were hoping that people will overlook that and come on and vote," Zeigler said.

So did the rain keep people home?

"Didn't keep me home," Corbitt said.

But despite the weather, many are keeping their hopes high.

"I just hope a lot of people come and vote because this is so important," Zeigler said.

Polls close Saturday night at 7:00.
